Hanser Style

The power of a virtual handshake brought me to the homestead of Heather and Ryan Hanser to assess their existing landscape and create a design merging contemporary and prairie styles with functionality.  Here’s a look into their property:

Here’s an outline of some of the main issues the Hansers are looking to address:

1. Create privacy along southwest side of property in a way that is visually pleasing and keep the small children in the yard

2.  Create a functional entrance to the porch

3.  Remove lilac shrub and incorporate patio to watch the kids from

According to Heather, her and Ryan have slightly different styles.  Heather prefers straight lines with a contemporary flare while Ryan likes a softer line in the landscape.  Overall I believe they share a minimalist style easily merged through the plant and hardscape materials used.

My next step is to hit the drawing board to sketch out my thoughts.  I’d really like to incorporate some vertical wood panels (similar to their entrance) along the southwest side of the property~the area needing privacy.

Here are just a couple examples of landscapes I’m pulling inspiration from:

What to you think?  Would love to hear some ideas from those for with a prairie/contemporary style.

Here are some that I think look nice, plus would add a little color without being too terribly attractive: Little Bluestem, Blue Fescue, Pennisetum Orientale (Karley Rose). I like the website!
